Creating a knowledge object

Wrapper profile 0.2. The entry contract: preserve identity, source, provenance, rights and lifecycle around a document that stays where it is.

A real source observation

This is the local Riksdagen snapshot from 22 August 2026. It predates the 0.2 changes: its legacy classification is not a permission, and its content hash is null.

The object contract

Knowledge Object keeps its identifier when used in another context. The following fields describe the 0.2 working profile; implementation is still being reconciled with the earlier snapshots.

ITWN-ID (itwnId)
A persistent identifier independent of its storage application.
source
The distribution from which the source observation was taken.
provenance
The source actor, activity and time; the source remains authoritative.
version
A versioned observation, with attributable lifecycle events.
sensitivity
A classification used in policy evaluation. The deprecated accessPolicy alias does not grant access.
relations
Typed references to independently addressable objects.
validationStatus
The explicit evidence and validation state; never an implied authenticity guarantee.

Rights are attached to the source

Permissions, duties and prohibitions may carry constraints. Rights are keyed to the publishing source host, not inferred from the issuer. Unknown terms remain unknown.

Illustrative constrained duty
{
  "rights": {
    "duty": [
      {
        "action": "notify-outcome",
        "constraint": [
          {
            "leftOperand": "elapsedTime",
            "operator": "lteq",
            "rightOperand": "P30D",
            "from": "delivery"
          }
        ]
      }
    ]
  }
}

This example requires an outcome notification within thirty days of delivery. Constraints can also qualify permissions and prohibitions. Federation membership never supplies a grant.

Describe exactly what was hashed

contentHash · required shape when present
{
  "algorithm": "sha-256",
  "value": "<64 lowercase hexadecimal characters>",
  "hashedResource": "<publisher plain-text URL>",
  "hashedAt": "<ISO 8601 timestamp>"
}

The digest is computed from the publisher’s byte stream, not locally stripped HTML. If no reproducible resource is available, contentHash stays null. A hash is evidence of unchanged bytes, not authorship or ownership.

Five roles, kept separate

creator
Who made the source.
contributor
Who contributed context or evidence.
custodian
Who maintains and protects it.
rightsHolder
Who may set terms, when known.
beneficiary
Who receives any applicable compensation.

Do not infer a rights holder from registration, authorship or custody.

Wrapper’s place in the protocol

Wrapper is an operational role supporting the core model: Knowledge Objects, attributable relationships and the relational metadata register, and intertweens. It describes source knowledge with context and conditions; it does not define the whole protocol.
